Setup

Create a list to use SPrello with

You can use most SharePoint list types, however
  • Recurring events in Calender lists will not work.
  • Discussion lists will not currently work correctly.

Your list should have a Choice or Multi Choice column for the categories (see Terminology)

Additionally you can use Views - e.g. only show uncompleted tasks or tasks assigned to the current user.

Add SPrello web part to a page

Once you have installed SPrello (see Installation) you will be able to add the SPRello web part to a web part or wiki page.
  • Navigate to the page you want to put SPrello on (or create a new one)
  • Site Actions > Edit Page
  • Insert > Web Part
  • At this point its not strictly necessary but its helpful to Save the page then Edit it again.
  • (There is a bug in SharePoint that can cause a web part to be added, but not visible in some circumstances if you miss this step)
  • Under the Pentalogic.net category select the SPrello web part
  • Click Add

Configure SPrello

See Terminology

Select the web part menu (top right) and Edit this web part

From the Configuration section of the tool pane set
  • List - the name of the list you want to use
  • View - the name of the view you want to use (optional)
  • Category - the name of the choice field you want to use (such as Priority or Status)
  • Order - the name of a numeric order field you want to use (optional)
  • Title - the name of the field to be displayed on the cards Title (see Terminology)
  • Detail - the name of the field to be displayed on the cards detail area.
Note - you can combine multiple fields into a single field using a calculated column.
{e.g. =[Field1] & ", " & [Field2]}
  • On Card Click -
    • Nothing - take a guess!
    • Edit_Form - open the list items edit form
    • Display_Form - open the list items display form.
  • Allow Adding - show an "Add New Item" button at the top of the web part

Does the Order field really work to order the boards? I tried it and nothing happened?

I got the combined fields working by adding a new calculated field to the list, and using it as the Detail field. I works great.

Everything works perfectly exept combining multiple fields like =[Field1] & ", " & [Field2]. Has anyone gotten that to work?

All above - latest version (1.0.1.0) probably fixes this problem (javascript error showing SPrello is undefined) if still having problem please raise in Issues area - this is for comments to documentation and I don't get any notice that you've put stuff here.

I cannot get the web part to render data at all. I enter the configuration values as above (I do this on a vanilla Team Site with a Tasks list to be sure) and then save the web part. Every time I go to open the web part's Page tab it says it is loading and hangs. Nothing happens after that. All I see is the web part title and the Add new item option I selected. Clicking it does not hing either. I am running with the debug option selected and cannot see anything meaningful in the logs. All the .js files etc. are in the site assets library.

I had a similar problem when I was using a Look Up column instead of a Choice column. If you are using a Look Up column, I do not think SPrello will work in this current version.

I was able to download, install, configure, and see the list items while editing the web-part but as soon as I apply the changes and save them, the SPrello web-part only shows the header and no data.
